What is Tattoo Aftercare?

Tattoo aftercare is the series of steps that we suggest you take in order to have a great "post-tattoo" experience, and to ensure proper healing and longevity of your new art piece. Take a look at some of our suggestions below!

How to care for your new tattoo...

DAY ONE:

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Now that you're done with the inking, you should treat your new piece with kid gloves. You will undoubtedly have a bandage on your new tattoo, which you should keep on for at least 6 hours, or overnight if possible.

CLEANING YOUR NEW TATTOO:

Wash your new tattoo with CLEAN hands, and un-scented, anti bacterial soap. (DIAL is a pretty popular choice!) Clean the tattoo with gentle, circular motions until it is clear of previous ointments or blood.

DAILY TATTOO CARE:

You should apply a healing ointment such as Saniderm or Vatalitree between 2 and 3 times a day. (If either of those cause a reaction, you can use Aquaphor or Bacitracin). Continue this for 5 to 7 days. When your tattoo starts to peel, you can switch to using a plain, unscented lotion. Most tats heal within 2 - 4 weeks.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight while healing, and remember to protect it with sunscreen once healed. This can help prolong the vibrancy of your tattoo.

Keep your bedding, clothes, and towels clean and dry during the healing process. When showering or washing, use gentle hands, and do not soak the tattoo.

When your tattoo starts to peel, do not itch, scratch, or peel it. Keep it clean, dry, and moisturized, and let your skin do the healing.
